Green Drink for your Microbiome

Updated: Oct 31, 2023

Green juices are great but they take out all of the fiber that feeds your gut microbes!

I suggest consuming 6-9 cups of vegetables each day and this can be challenging to get in so adding a green drink that is packed with veggies is a great way to increase your daily consumption of vegetables.

The gut microbiome:

We have about 40-100 trillion microbes in our gut. These microbes contain a cumulative genome that codes for nearly 20 million genes. This means that 99% of the genes that we contain are from bacteria, only 1% of our genes are human! And we need to feed these bacteria to help them, help us!

Remember your gut microbes eat fiber! They use that fiber to produce short chain fatty acids that help to balance inflammation in the body, produce neurotransmitters and even help us regulate our metabolism.

Dr. Mary's Green Drink Recipe:

Place 4 cups of greens (arugula, spinach, microgreens, broccoli sprouts, kale etc) - any combination of your choosing- in a blender (vitamix or ninja is best).

add 20 ounce of water

add stevia to taste

add 1/2 TBL organic lemon or lime juice (can change dosage based on taste)

Blend, drink, enjoy your liquid greens!
