When working with patients who want to ensure they stay healthy we start by doing a review of their family history and personal medical history to see what they are at highest risk for.

Cardiovascular disease

Cardiovascular disease is the number one cause of death in the US. For men and women. 

​

One person dies every 34 seconds in the United States from cardiovascular disease (1).

​

50% of people who have their FIRST heart attack will not survive it.

​

We do not like to use fear as a motivator but most people do not know or understand these facts. 

 

Which is important because:  Cardiovascular disease is preventable.

​

This is why we make it a priority to reduce the risk for heart disease for all of our longevity patients. 

 

Key drivers for cardiovascular disease include: 

  • Elevated blood pressure

  • Smoking

  • Elevated APO B/ LDL-P levels

  • Diabetes/ metabolic issues

  • Obesity

  • Sedentary lifestyle

Why the "standard of care" is not cutting it:

In medicine the standard of care is to use an ASCVD (atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease) or cardiovascular disease risk calculator. This factors in your age, gender, race, blood pressures, total cholesterol and a few other markers to assess your risk of having a first time ASCVD event. â€‹

However, since heart disease is preventable, at modrn med we believe is essential to aggressively screen for and treat early signs of heart disease and not wait until it inevitably develops or progresses. 

​

We don't want you to have a cardiovascular event over the next 10 years, but we also don't want you to have a cardiovascular event over the next 30 or 40 + years. 

​

We don't believe in waiting until your 10 year risk of ASCVD elevates to a level that "warrants" therapy. We think that treating early and aggressively is modrn medicine. 

​

Metabolic health

Insulin resistance is a risk factor for cardiovascular disease, nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and  type 2 diabetes. 

 

Insulin resistance is also preventable.

  • Advanced cardiac testing (coronary artery calcium score, advanced heart scans, Apo B, Lp(a) and more)

  • Lifestyle review

  • VO2 Max Testing- Dr. Mary offers VO2 Max tests to all of the patients at modrn med. This tests for your level of cardiorespiratory fitness which is link to risk for mortality. 

 

Strength and mobility assessments

We partner with local trainers for our modrn strength and conditioning assessment that is geared towards prevention/longevity.

We will review your supplement list and optimize it for your family history, personal medical history, symptoms and goals

Body composition review:

Based on your body composition (how much of your body is made up of fat vs muscle), we will give recommendations on nutrition and exercise to reach your goals.
